Writing

I love to teach writing! It is also the hardest thing to motivate first graders to do and enjoy it. At the beginning of the year they looked at me like I was crazy. What is a sentence Mrs. Clark? As the year progressed, I added more sentences to their work, topic sentence, conclusions, paragraphs(Oh My),and most of their faces light up as they put their portfolio together. I didn't have near as much time to dedicate to this project as I imagined at the beginning of the year. I have several who took home writing projects that were supposed to stay in their writing portfolio. I learned a few things over my first year of teaching! I learned that nothing goes as planned. So, next year I will hoard these writing activities in a place I have yet to find. It will happen though. My goal is to show their progress through the entire year. Here are some pictures of the many writing activities we did this year. Poetry with Peeps: I place a peep in an egg for each student. I gave every student one and had them open it at the same time. They were so excited! They experienced all of the senses and put that into their poetry with the peeps. It is amazing the quality of work you get when their is a treat waiting for them. :0
